Bullitt County Public Schools

documenting the whole story of local accountability

Bullitt County Public Schools partnered with The Alchemy Collaborative to support storytelling around their local accountability journey — a multi-year effort rooted in community voice, vibrant learning experiences, and shared responsibility for student success. As this work evolved over time, district leaders recognized that progress would only matter if people could see it, understand it, and believe in it.

Alchemy helped BCPS document not just outcomes, but the process itself — making an ambitious, long-term vision visible and human.

the challenge

Local accountability is a moonshot. It unfolds slowly, requires trust, and can feel abstract to those not directly involved. Bullitt County Public Schools needed a way to make this long-term work tangible — without overwhelming staff or reducing the story to a single moment.

making a moonshot understandable

Local accountability and vibrant learning evolve through conversations, reflection, and collaboration over multiple years. The district needed to help people understand what was happening and why — not just point to isolated events or polished outcomes.

limited time for authentic storytelling

Creating a video that reflected a 2+ year accountability journey could easily require days of editing and reconstruction. With limited capacity, the district needed a realistic approach that honored the work without adding strain.

capturing the whole story, not just proof points

Having a camera present sometimes felt uncomfortable — but without documentation, the story of local accountability would remain invisible. The district needed to capture learning, tension, and evolution as they happened, not recreate the narrative later.

the alchemy collaborative approach

begin with the end in mind

Alchemy approached local accountability as a long-term narrative, capturing moments with the understanding that the story would unfold over years — not weeks.

capture vibrant accountability in action

Rather than filming because a video was needed, Alchemy documented learning, collaboration, and community engagement because the work itself mattered.

curate and label b-roll stringouts

After each event, the strongest clips were compiled into clearly labeled b-roll stringouts, creating an organized visual record of how learning and accountability were evolving.

make editing an act of reflection, not reconstruction

When it was time to create the local accountability video, the editor worked from a familiar, organized archive — allowing the final piece to authentically reflect the journey rather than retroactively explain it.

the result

The final local accountability video for Bullitt County Public Schools was completed in just three hours — not because the work was small, but because it had been thoughtfully documented over time. More importantly, the district now has a reusable archive of b-roll that supports ongoing communication, site visits, presentations, and storytelling tied to vibrant, community-based accountability.  “Documenting the process changed everything. Instead of trying to explain local accountability after the fact, we were able to show it — honestly and authentically — as it unfolded.”
